RE: Auto industry bailout--should we?

Do you guys realize how many people will loose there job?? Also where are you going to get GOOD parts at?? I dont agree with bailouts either but this is one that has to be done. the bankers should be in prison for what they did. The automakers actually made a product to get rich on not just playing with money. This isn't any longer just a question of job loss. The demise of the auto industry will impact every state in our union, as well as other countries. We will lose far more than the big three, there will be the most incredible trickle down (more like avalanche!) effect ever seen. There are many retirees who have spent their lives working for their pension (raise your hands here, folks) who will be affected. As well, retail stores, parts supplier industries, RV industry already hard hit, and probably as many others as you can imagine or list. I also agree that the bankers/insurance people/wall street crooks should all be jailed! However, they just took their big billions and ran. The auto industry is not asking for a hand out, they want a LOAN! Sure, mismanaged no doubt - but give them a chance to regroup, rethink and rebuild. The ramifications of not lending this money are far too terrible to think about. Can anyone say "The Greater Depression"? Karen

RE: I found a place to dump the tanks when we get home!

USA in a Chevrolet, no offense taken. I was not very clear either, I meant to say that normally garage drains do NOT drain into the sanitary sewer, therefore not a good place to dump black or gray tanks!

RE: I found a place to dump the tanks when we get home!

I would be leery of dumping in a garage drain too. Most of those in our area at least are little more than small run off drains that go into the yard or street.I think it's illegal to drain into the sanitary sewers.

RE: forest river

We are on #2 also. Used to have a 2003 Sierra, now have a 2008 Cardinal. Loved the Sierra, the worst problem we had with that was a warped window screen letting mosquitos in! We had only minor issues with the Cardinal, bad propane regulator and ground fault plugs. Our Concertone seems to play even! :-) (Knocking on wood here!) Karen

RE: Rotton Egg Smell

Our "rotton egg" problem was resolved when hubby cleaned the anode rod in the water heater. Smell was worse in the bathroom, especially the shower, but it was noticible when using hot water in the kitchen also.

RE: Fiver with side bath

Obviously everyone is suggesting their favorite brand, but quite honestly, almost all of them offer the "side bath" option. We too, don't like the shower& sink in the bedroom. Try Cardinal! :-)

RE: sofa with air mattress

Our 2008 Cardinal must have been one of the last to have the old style fold our sofa bed. It was so low that it was difficult even to sit on and get up from comfortably. We went down to the Forest River factory and picked up a new style with the inflatable mattress. It is wonderful! It sits much higher, so old knees don't have such a difficult time rising, takes up must less floor space when out, has added storage with a drawer under the sofa, and the mattress has none of those painful metal bars beneath or at the edges. We LOVE it and so do our guests!

RE: Stepping into the RV

DrGrenelle, I think this may be closer to what you had in mind. I know I have bad knees, and I am wishing we had one of these. As for the first step, we do have a platform to supplement where we are camped that has a big drop at the entry, and my husband had replaced the original entry steps with a lower rise, 4 step model which has helped. RE: 54 footer

I wonder if you have to worry about "trailer shake" and stabilizers in one of those rigs? :-)

RE: Mor/Ryde Kingpin

Yes it does. I can't speak for/against the Air type because we haven't had one, but the MorRyde after install stopped enough of chucking and up and down that I no longer suffered motion sickness on our long trips. Karen

RE: Cardinal RV Club

I'll second the "friendly family type club" part of Charles post! We are members of the Cardinal Club also, and what really attracts me is there is no "mine is better than yours" or "you can't pull that with this" talk! Just help and camaraderie. There surely is a ton of great information here on RV net, but it seems you have to wade through a heap of murk to find it sometimes. Karen

RE: Forest River

We also are on our 2nd Forest River 5er. First was an '03 Sierra we had for 4 years until we got the '08 Cardinal last year. Sierra had few, very minor problems (one screen was bent, can't remember anything else!) and the Cardinal has had a couple small problems (gas regulator had to be replaced and faulty GFI outlets replaced- dealer stated "cheap Chinese junk" originally installed by most manufacturers LOL), and we do have a slide that had too much sealant on the outside and when opened it caused the inner seal to pull away. Still doesn't leak though, and believe it or not, our CONCERTONE actually works! (Shhh knocking on wood!) The malcontents and bashers are so prevalent on this forum that it's a breath of fresh air to hear something positive! Sure we have a couple issues, (my stick house isn't perfect either, neither is my new car!) but I would buy another Forest River in a heartbeat.

RE: Where did you buy JT's

Ditto Tweetys.com - had them in less than a week, from Texas to Michigan!

RE: Heater

If it is a brand new camper, the burning off of oils in the new furnace will make it go off. Anything other than that MUST be checked out right away!

RE: Insurance claim......Long post

I have an uncle who's older model Jayco 5th wheel had major roof damage in a hailstorm. He was insured by State Farm. They "totaled" the trailer, and sent him a check for $12,000. He in turn bought back the trailer from SF for $2000, and he repaired the roof himself for perhaps another $1000. Now State Farm has picked up his insurance again on the same trailer! Some insurance companies DO play nice. BTW, he's socked the rest away towards a new trailer! Karen 'n Tom

RE: 6 feet of water in the Mobile Suite

I've looked at your "pix", and what a beautiful kitchen remodel! I can understand your husband's desire to try to keep your Mobile Suite. However, we have experienced fresh water flooding in our stick home, and believe me, it is not easy. There is so much mold, rot, and unexpected problems not to mention the horrible odor from the damage and mold, that I can say that it most certainly should be replaced. So sorry!!! Good Luck, Karen 'n Tom

RE: Thoughts on Puma 245RKS

My son will be picking up his Puma bunkhouse tomorrow. It appears to be of similar quality as his former Salem, but they need a bunkhouse with 2 growing kids. They also will mostly use it in parks fairly nearby, or on his father-in-law's property. He and my husband checked them out quite thoroughly on the lot, and they looked to be as good or better than others in their class/price range. Good luck to you (and to my son!)

RE: Sad Day...

Trop-a-cal, I am going to live vicariously through your description of your Florida home! Michigan winters are long and sometimes difficult. We hope to get to FL in March and April, will have to see how things work out. Your post was beautifully detailed, I can just see all the lovely blooms and foliage now! I think I'll print and laminate it now for the coming months - :) Karen

Anyone want to change the subject here to something benign..... like POLITICS!!! :B

RE: New 5ver: Cardinal, Montana, Bighorn,Jayco Designer

We love our Cardinal, and it seems to be a step above Cedar Creek. Look at the specs... ;-) Whichever model you choose, just make sure it's the one YOU like, and not the one all of the rest of us owners are touting just because we want to justify our purchases!! Good Luck and Have Fun!
